A tightening regulatory landscape

Environmental compliance is becoming more demanding, not less. Tightening regulations, growing scrutiny from regulators and clients alike, and the increasing importance of demonstrable environmental performance mean that businesses can no longer afford to treat their environmental obligations as an afterthought.

50 years of hands-on experience

Our environmental team brings over 50 years of hands-on experience helping organisations across manufacturing, engineering, and other industrial sectors understand exactly where they stand (legally, operationally, and reputationally) and what they need to do about it. We give you clear, jargon-free advice and robust monitoring programmes, so you can demonstrate compliance with confidence rather than cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Enrionmental Ear Protection

Environmental liability insurance is only as strong as the evidence behind it

Environmental incidents can create significant liabilities for both regulators and third parties. The quality of your monitoring data, permit compliance records and documented response to identified issues all influence how insurers assess your risk and how claims are managed.

Your CRM environmental monitoring programme provides the evidence your CIM broker needs to present your environmental risk profile accurately to underwriters. UKAS-accredited monitoring results, well-maintained compliance records and documented remediation work demonstrate responsible environmental management and can strengthen your position at renewal.

If an environmental claim arises, your CRM consultants can assist with technical investigations, attend loss assessor meetings and help prepare the evidence needed to support your claim. Their expertise helps ensure the technical aspects of your case are clearly represented.

Take control of your compliance

Whether you’re responding to a regulatory requirement, preparing for an audit, or simply trying to understand your environmental baseline, we’ll give you the data and the expert interpretation you need to take control.

Our services include:

Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Surveys

Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH), employers are required to ensure that LEV systems are thoroughly examined and tested at least every 14 months by a competent person. Our team carries out these statutory inspections across a wide range of LEV systems and industrial processes, producing the detailed written examination reports your enforcement authority expects to see. Where deficiencies are identified, we’ll give you clear guidance on what needs to be rectified and why.

Workplace Exposure Monitoring

Understanding whether your workers are being exposed to hazardous substances at levels that could harm their health is a fundamental COSHH obligation. We carry out workplace exposure monitoring for dusts, aerosols, gases, and vapours, as well as noise assessments and hand-arm vibration (HAVS) monitoring. All sample analysis is carried out by UKAS accredited laboratories, giving you results you can rely on and defend to a regulator. We’ll interpret the findings against the relevant Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) and provide clear recommendations where control measures need to be improved or reviewed.

Emissions to Atmosphere Monitoring

If your operations produce emissions to atmosphere, you may have permit conditions or regulatory requirements governing what you can release and in what quantities. We carry out stack emissions monitoring and source testing across a range of industrial processes, including sample port installation where required. Our monitoring is carried out using Environment Agency approved methodology by MCERTS qualified personnel, giving you results that are defensible to your regulator and produced in the format the Environment Agency expects. Where sample ports need to be installed or upgraded to meet the requirements of BS EN ISO 15259, we can manage that as part of the same programme of work.

Dispersion Modelling

Understanding how emissions from your site behave once they leave the stack is increasingly important, both for permit applications and for demonstrating that your operations aren’t causing unacceptable impacts on the surrounding area. We carry out dispersion modelling in-house, including D1 stack height calculations and H1 impact assessments, giving you a complete picture of your atmospheric impact without the delays and costs that come with subcontracting specialist work.

Phase I and Phase II Land Quality Surveys

Where land may have been affected by historical industrial use or contamination, a structured investigation is essential before development, sale, or change of use. Our Phase I surveys involve a thorough desk-based study and site walkover to identify potential sources of contamination and assess the risks they pose. Where Phase I findings warrant further investigation, we carry out Phase II surveys involving intrusive investigation, soil and groundwater sampling, and laboratory analysis to characterise the contamination present. We produce clear, technically robust reports that satisfy the requirements of local planning authorities, lenders, and regulators.
