More than compliance

Good health and safety management isn’t just about compliance. It’s about building a business where people go home safe, operations run smoothly, and liability is properly controlled. At Clear Risk Management, we bring chartered expertise directly into your organisation, helping you create a safety culture that actually works in practice, not just on paper.

Qualified, registered practitioners

Our team are NEBOSH Diploma-qualified safety practitioners and Chartered Members of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH). All of our H&S consultants are registered on the Occupational Health and Safety Consultants Register (OHSCR), the public register that identifies consultants who have demonstrated the competence and professionalism required to give reliable health and safety advice. That means when you work with us, you’re getting advice grounded in recognised professional standards, not generalist opinion. We take a proactive, hands-on approach, visiting sites, interrogating management systems, identifying gaps before they become incidents, and working alongside your team to implement solutions that are genuinely fit for purpose.

Your health and safety record may be one of your strongest insurance assets

A well-managed health and safety programme does more than keep people safe and ensure legal compliance. It can demonstrate that your business is professionally managed, and insurers may recognise the difference between organisations with robust safety systems and those with little more than a policy document.

At renewal, your CIM broker can draw on your CRM audit results, risk assessments, accident statistics and the expertise of chartered safety consultants who understand your operations. This evidence can help present your business as a well-managed risk, strengthening your position with insurers and supporting the negotiation of terms that reflect the standards you've achieved.

If an accident results in a claim, your CRM consultants can support the investigation, attend loss assessor meetings and can help prepare the technical evidence needed to support your position. Rather than starting from scratch, you have experienced professionals who already know your business working alongside you.

Culture change, not clipboard compliance

We understand that lasting improvement comes from cultural change, not clipboard compliance. We focus on engaging your leadership and your workforce, because the best safety systems are the ones your people believe in and use every day.

Our services include

Strategic Health & Safety Consultancy

Most businesses have some form of health and safety arrangements in place. The question is whether those arrangements are actually working, whether they reflect the real risks in your business, and whether they would stand up to scrutiny if something went wrong. Our strategic consultancy gives you a senior, CMIOSH-qualified safety professional who will take an honest look at where you are, tell you what needs to change, and help you build something that genuinely protects your business and your people.

This isn't about generating paperwork for its own sake. It's about understanding your operations, identifying where the real exposures lie, and putting in place proportionate, practical controls that your managers can actually implement and your workforce will actually follow. Whether you're building your health and safety arrangements from scratch, preparing for growth or acquisition activity, or simply want an independent view from someone who isn't afraid to tell you the truth, we'll give you the clarity and direction you need.

Health & Safety Management Systems

A health and safety management system is only worth having if it reflects how your business actually operates. A system built around a generic template, filled with policies that have never been read and procedures that bear no relation to what happens on the ground, doesn't protect you. It just gives you a false sense of security and a filing cabinet full of paperwork that will unravel the moment a regulator or an insurer looks closely at it.

We design and build health and safety management systems around your business, your sector, your workforce, and your risk profile. We can work to recognised standards including ISO 45001, and we can take you through the certification process if that's what you need. We can also audit your existing system, tell you honestly where it falls short, and give you a structured plan to bring it up to the standard your business deserves. The result is a system that your managers understand, your workforce trusts, and that will hold up when it matters most.

Health & Safety Audits and Safety Reviews

An audit is only useful if the person carrying it out is willing to tell you what they actually find. We don't write reports designed to reassure. We write reports designed to protect you, which sometimes means telling you things you'd rather not hear.

Our audits examine your policies, your procedures, your physical workplace, and, crucially, the gap between what the documentation says and what actually happens day to day. That gap is almost always where the real risk lives. We look at how your managers apply the rules, how your workforce understands them, and whether your monitoring and review arrangements would pick up a problem before it becomes an incident.

You'll receive a clear, prioritised written report with findings and recommendations that are realistic to act on and proportionate to the actual risk. No padding, no jargon, no recycled generic findings. Just an honest, expert assessment of where you stand and what you need to do about it.

Risk Assessments

A risk assessment that sits in a folder and never gets referenced isn't managing risk. It's managing liability on paper while the actual risk carries on unchecked. We've seen too many businesses discover this the hard way, when an inspector arrives, when a claim is made, or when someone gets hurt and the assessment turns out to bear no resemblance to what was actually happening on the ground.

The risk assessments we produce are written for the people who need to use them. They're specific to your workplace, your tasks, and your workforce. They identify controls that are genuinely practical and proportionate, and they're explained to your managers so that understanding what to do and why becomes part of how your business operates, not just another document to sign off.

We cover general workplace risk assessments, COSHH assessments, manual handling, working at height, and any other task or hazard-specific assessment your operations require. We'll also review and update your existing assessments where your activities, people, or premises have changed, because a risk assessment is only as good as the day it was written, unless someone is keeping it current.

Accident Investigation

When something goes wrong, the instinct is often to deal with the immediate situation, notify the relevant people, and move on as quickly as possible. The problem is that without a rigorous investigation, the conditions that caused the accident remain in place, and the next incident is simply waiting to happen.

Our accident investigators are experienced in applying structured root cause analysis methodologies that go beyond the immediate trigger to identify the underlying management, organisational, and behavioural factors that allowed the incident to occur. We produce clear, factual investigation reports that satisfy the requirements of enforcing authorities, support any insurance or legal process that follows, and, most importantly, give you the information you need to make sure it doesn't happen again. If the HSE or another regulator is involved, we can also advise on how to manage that process and what your obligations are.

IOSH Accredited Training

IOSH qualifications are the most widely recognised health and safety credentials in the UK, and for good reason. They give managers, supervisors, and workers a structured, independently assessed understanding of their responsibilities that goes well beyond a one-day awareness course.

We deliver IOSH Managing Safely (three days), IOSH Managing Safely Refresher (one day), IOSH Leading Safely (half day for senior leaders), and IOSH Working Safely in Construction, alongside our own H&S Essentials programme for teams who need a solid foundation without the full accredited qualification route.

Every course is delivered by our own CMIOSH-qualified consultants, which means the person standing in front of your managers is a chartered safety professional with real-world consultancy experience, not a training provider who has never worked in a live business environment. Content is adapted for your sector and your audience, because a logistics manager and a care home supervisor face very different risks and need their training to reflect that. Courses are delivered at your premises or at an agreed venue, at a time that fits around your operations.
