Fire Safety

Fire safety isn’t an area where good intentions are enough. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places clear legal duties on the Responsible Person in any non-domestic premises, and getting it wrong carries serious consequences, from enforcement action and improvement notices through to prosecution and unlimited fines. More importantly, inadequate fire safety puts lives at risk.

Accreditations that set us apart

Clear Risk Management’s Fire Safety department brings together a range of accreditations that set us apart from the generalist market. We hold BAFE SP205 registration (the nationally recognised standard for fire risk assessment), NAFDI accreditation for fire door inspection, ISO 9001 quality management certification, and SafeContractor accreditation. Our assessors are qualified via IFE approved Fire Risk Assessor training and are all Members of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM). All Fire Risk Assessors are registered on the Nationally Accredited Fire Risk Assessors Register (NAFRAR), with several holding Advanced Level.

Accredited fire safety gives insurers greater confidence

Property insurers place significant value on robust fire safety management. Current BAFE-accredited fire risk assessments, fire door inspections and up to date testing records demonstrate a level of risk management that insurers recognise when assessing your property.

Your CRM Fire Safety team provides an ongoing programme of accredited compliance evidence, including BAFE SP205 fire risk assessments, NAFDI-accredited fire door inspections and testing records. At renewal, your CIM broker uses this information to demonstrate the quality of your fire safety management and negotiate property insurance terms that reflect the way your buildings are managed.

If a fire-related claim occurs, your CRM fire safety consultants can support investigations, attend loss assessor meetings and provide the technical documentation needed to strengthen your position throughout the claims process.

Our services include:

Fire Risk Assessments (BAFE SP205 Accredited)

A fire risk assessment is a legal requirement for virtually all non-domestic premises and is the foundation of your fire safety management. Our assessors carry out thorough, premises-specific assessments that go beyond the surface, examining your building, your processes, your occupants, and your existing fire safety measures to produce a clear, prioritised action plan. Where remedial work is required, we’ll tell you what needs doing, in what order, and why.

Fire Risk Assessment Audits

If you have an existing fire risk assessment that you’re not confident in, or that hasn’t been reviewed following changes to your premises or occupancy, we can carry out a critical audit of the document and the premises against which it was written. We’ll identify whether the assessment remains valid, where it falls short, and what needs to be updated to ensure it continues to meet your legal obligations.

Fire Door Inspections (NAFDI Accredited)

Fire doors are a critical element of passive fire protection, but they are only effective if they are correctly specified, properly installed, and well maintained. Our NAFDI accredited inspectors assess fire doors and their associated hardware (frames, seals, hinges, closers, and glazing) against the relevant standards, producing a detailed condition report for each door inspected. We provide clear, prioritised recommendations so you know exactly which doors require immediate attention and which can be managed within a planned maintenance programme.

For property managers and landlords responsible for multiple occupied buildings, we understand that coordinating fire door inspections across a portfolio can be a logistical challenge, particularly where tenant cooperation is required. We’ll liaise directly with your tenants to arrange access, taking that burden off your desk entirely. All inspection results, condition reports, and remedial action recommendations are made available through our easy to use online portal, giving you a clear, up to date picture of compliance across your entire portfolio at any time. Whether you manage five buildings or five hundred, you’ll always know where you stand.

Emergency Lighting and Fire Alarm Testing

Regular testing of your emergency lighting and fire alarm systems is both a legal requirement and a practical necessity. We carry out periodic testing and inspection in line with the relevant British Standards (BS 5266 for emergency lighting and BS 5839 for fire detection and alarm systems), producing the test records your insurers and enforcing authority will expect to see.

Safety Signage

Correct fire safety signage is a legal requirement under both the Fire Safety Order and the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996. We can assess your existing signage, identify gaps or non-compliances, and supply and install compliant signage across your premises.

Combined Routine Inspection and Testing

For clients who want to streamline their compliance obligations, we offer a combined routine inspection and testing service that brings together fire alarm testing, emergency lighting testing, and fire door inspection into a single visit. This reduces disruption, simplifies your compliance records, and ensures nothing gets missed between separate contractor visits.

Fire Drills

A fire drill is more than an inconvenient interruption to the working day. Carried out properly, it tests your evacuation procedures, identifies weaknesses in your arrangements, and gives your staff the confidence to respond quickly and calmly in an emergency. We plan and facilitate fire drills, observe the evacuation, and provide a written debrief report with any recommendations for improvement.

Fire Safety Training

We deliver practical fire safety training for staff, fire marshals, and wardens, covering fire prevention, evacuation procedures, and the correct use of fire fighting equipment. Training is tailored to your premises and your team and can be delivered on-site at a time that suits your operations.
